Finding Time

Writers who have a full time job on top of writing obligations often struggle to find time to write.  I know that I am most productive first thing in the morning and that my writing tends to peak prior to 10am.  But that peak writing time is often consumed by my commute and work making it difficult to schedule in writing time during my preferred time slot.

How do you fit writing into an already busy schedule?
  • Schedule it into your calendar the same way you would a meeting.
  • Try writing at different times of the day.  Even if you can't always write at your preferred time you might find that changing things up once in awhile helps.
  • Talk publicly about your writing goals or join a writers group.  Accountability to other people can help keep you on track. Twitter can be a great tool for connecting with other authors who are working on similar projects.
